Why silicone? Silicone is the safest soft material on the market. It is inert, has no pores to harbor bacteria, and is therefore hypoallergenic, hygienic, easy to clean, and incredibly durable. It is stable at temperatures up to 600 F, so you can boil it if it doesn't have electronic components. You can also bleach it in a 10% solution or clean it using rubbing alcohal.
